Junior Certificate Course
This three year course lays the foundation and prepares the student for the challenges of the senior cycle. A wide range of subjects are available in the school. These include;
English, Irish, Mathematics, Science, Metalwork, Woodwork, Technical Graphics, Business Studies, French, German, History, Geography, CSPE, SPHE, Religious Studies, Physical Education.
Subjects are taught at all levels (Foundation, Ordinary, Higher) where applicable.
Transition Year Course
This course provides oportunities for students to undertake activities not normally available on the curriculum, photography and outdoor pursuits for example. Students pursue courses in first aid and the European Computer Driving Licence, which lead to external certification. Two weeks work experience is another core aspect of the course. While optional at present, it is envisaged that Transition Year will become a compulsory year at senior cycle.
Leaving Certificate Applied Programme
This course provides an alternative to the established Leaving Certificate for those students who do not desire to continue to third level education. The programme is very practical in nature and is distinguished from other courses by the large amount of continous assessment involved. While there is a terminal examination in some subjects, assessment is mainly through assignments, student tasks and portfolio.
The course is modular in structure and each module is assessed on a continous basis and on completion of that particular module. Work experience is central to the LCAP. Students gain work experience on one day each week throughout the school year.
Leaving Certificate Established Programme
This course is the established Leaving Certificate which is chosen by students who wish to gain the necessary points for entry into third level education. Students normally study seven subjects from the range of subjects provided at the school. These include;
English, Irish, Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Construction Studies, French, Business Studies, Technical Drawing, German, History, Geography, Accounting.
Subjects are taught at all levels (Foundation, Ordinary, Higher) where applicable.
Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme
This course is similar to the Leaving Certificate Established programme but with additional link modules included. These link modules are of a vocational nature and include business, ICT, and work experience. Additional points may be gained from these modules for entry to the institutes of technology. Assessment of the link modules is by portfolio. Students normally study seven subjects from the range of subjects provided at the school. These include;
English, Irish, Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Construction Studies, French, Business Studies, Technical Drawing, German, History, Geography, Accounting.
